Greetings P.S./I.S. 192 Families,

The PTA would like to welcome you all!

The purpose of the PTA is to support our families, staff, and most importantly our students.

Our main focus is to engage our school community and raise funds in order to conduct

activities and events for our students.

We would like to invite you to join our PTA because your involvement is so very important to the success of our school community. Our budget is based on fundraisers and donations.

We would like to request a donation per family, NOT per student, beginning at $10.00.

This is not a mandatory fee, however, you will be helping us start off the school year with a strong foundation that we can build on.

We are counting on your ideas and enthusiasm in order to make “your” PTA a success!

Sincerely,

Peter Campanella - President          Veronika Zhvania - Treasurer          Elena Menjivar - Secretary

PS/IS 192 Cell Phone & Electronic Device Policy

To create an environment conducive to learning by minimizing distractions caused by cell phones and other personal internet-enabled electronic devices, ensure the safety and focus of all students during school the school day, and follow Education Law §2803, effective August 1, 2025, all New York State schools are required to adopt a policy that prohibits the use of personal internet-enabled devices during the school day on school grounds.  Examples of such devices include cell phones, smartphones, smartwatches, laptops, tablets, iPads, and portable music and entertainment systems.

At PS/IS 192 The Magnet School for Math and Science Inquiry, we want all students to be engaged and feel safe every day. For this reason, the School Leadership Team (SLT) formed the following policy.

Students will not be permitted to use or access their personal internet-enabled electronic devices from the start of the school day at 8 a.m. until dismissal (either regular dismissal at 2:20 p.m. or the dismissal time of the after school activity in which the student is participating).  The policy will remain in place during on-site afterschool activities until students are dismissed.  Students will be able to use school/NYCPS-issued devices during the school day.

  1. COLLECTION/STORAGE
  • Upon arrival, students must power off their devices and:

  • Students will place their devices in their Yondr pouch and secure the pouch in front of school staff.
  • Students will store their locked pouches in their school bag for the day.
  • At the end of the school day, students will unlock their pouch outside the building in the school yard during dismissal.
  • They will remove their device(s) and lock their pouches before leaving the yard.
  • Students arriving late/leaving early will pouch/unpouch their electronic device in the Main Office.  Please ask for Parent Coordinator Solange Cisneros-Steinert, or any of our secretaries, Annmarie, Morales, Loredana Bruno, or Anna Bova.
  • In the event that a Yondr pouch is lost or damaged, a new pouch will be purchased by the parent/guardian for $15.00.

  • Examples of damage:

  • Deep scratches on the globe and on the green ring around it
  • Intentional pen marks on the inside of the Pouch
  • Bent pins
  • Pin and button not fully recessing, due to pin damage
  • If a student forgets their Pouch, their electronic device will be collected and administration will call home to remind the parent of the policy. The electronic device will be returned to the student at dismissal.
  • If a student forgets their pouch for an extended period, it is considered lost. Refer to the Lost Pouch Policy above.

      • The principal/designee may authorize use for an educational purpose.
      • Exception requests will be processed and approved within 48 hours.

4. DISCIPLINE

  • Students who use electronic devices in violation of the NYCPS Discipline Code, the school's policy, Chancellor's Regulation A-413, and/or the NYCPS Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy ("IAUSP") will be subject to progressive discipline. This means that the disciplinary responses will escalate based on the nature and frequency of the violation. As provided in the State law, a student may not be suspended solely on the grounds that the student accessed a personal internet-enabled device in violation of school policy. Repeated incidents of insubordination (i.e. refusal to surrender or store

device) may result in a suspension if approved by the Office of Safety and Youth Development.

5.  OTHER: If lost or stolen

  • In the unlikely event that an electronic device is stolen or damaged at school, parents can submit a claim to the Comptroller’s Office. More information on submitting a claim is available on the Comptroller’s webpage.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a focused and productive learning environment. If you have any questions or need further clarification regarding these policies, please do not hesitate to contact Assistant Principal Janine Kraljev at 718-633-3061 x5062.

We’re the leading independent nonprofit in children’s mental health, operating three Mission Areas that work together for greater impact: Care, Education and Science.

Dear Families:

The results of the New York State English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics tests for students in grades 3–8 administered this past spring are now available. These tests are designed to provide a snapshot of how your child is performing against New York State Next Generation Learning Standards and expectations for their grade level.  It is important to remember that these tests are just one of several measures we use to assess student progress: grades, report cards, writing samples, projects, assignments, and other performance-based student work are equally important.

You can access the results through the NYC Schools Account (NYCSA) portal on the “My Student” page (schools.nyc.gov/NYCSA).  Your account must be linked to your child in order to view this information. If you need support accessing the portal or would like to create an account, you can visit schools.nyc.gov/NYCSA to learn more or contact our school’s parent coordinator Ms. Cisneros-Steinert.We will be glad to help you.

Our staff is in the process of reviewing the results to help inform our planning throughout this school year. We will share more details on what this means for our school community later this fall.

If you need any support accessing your child’s scores, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Mr. Colby Muscarelle

NYC School Bus App Information

Dear Families,

NYC Public Schools has been working on a multi-year project to update NYC’s school transportation system in partnership with Via, the leading provider of Transit Tech. This project
helps caregivers and schools with student transportation and improve the efficiency of busing operations. The project will provide real-time bus location and data to all caregivers, students,
schools, school staff, school bus drivers, and school bus companies across NYC. Your school has the technology to see the location of certain bus routes for arrival and
departure each day. As a next step, NYC Public Schools and Via would like to introduce the NYC School Bus App and your student’s bus route has been selected to join!
You can download the App on your smartphone (iPhone or Android) from the App Store (iPhone), Google Play store (Android), or visit https://doe.app.ridewithvia.com on the web. In the
app you can see the location of your student’s bus in real time and track the journey to and from school.

In order to log into the app or the web app, you will need your NYCSA – credentials. If you need support with your NYCSA account, please reach out to your student’s school’s or visit
www.schools.nyc.gov/nycsa.
If you have any questions about the app or would like to give feedback, please reach out to your school’s transportation coordinator and they will support you!
